Short-Term Mission Trip to Rwanda with Compassion International

Trip Dates:  August 2-14, 2012

 

Over the past three years, God has been knitting a relationship in our hearts through our partnership with Compassion International in Rwanda.

 

We have felt the Lord's leading to pursue a short term mission trip to Rwanda this summer.  Compassion International is making all our flight, travel, lodging and itinerary plans.  They will also be sending two chaperones from Compassion as our travel hosts. 

 

This short term mission trip will give us the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ.  We will enjoy an inside view of Compassion's ministry and receive a greater understanding of God's heart for the poor and the life changing effects ofCompassion's ministry to children in need. In addition, our trip will include:

• Visits to several of the Compassion Child Development Centers
• A visit to the One-to-One Child Survival Program that SCC supports
• Opportunities for us to serve the children at the Child Development Center with VBS, games, and sports
• A visit to the Compassion Office in Kigali
• A day with our sponsored children at a zoo or special planned outing
• Time with our Leadership Development Student, Niyongabire Benoit
• Time in the homes and communities of sponsored children
• A safari
• A visit with former Compassion VP, Bishop Mbanda, who directs Project RW836.  We will help serve this project with a clean up day

The dates of the trip are August 2-14 and we will depart from Washington Dulles Airport.

The cost for the trip is $3375, which includes:

• All food, water, lodging, and transportation
• Sponsored Child Day
• LDP Student visit and costs
• Home gifts for visitation
• Background check for Compassion
• Travel Insurance
• Safari and trip to RW836

Next Steps:

• Seek the Lord in prayer as to His will for you concerning this trip
• If you would like more detailed information on the trip, contact Diane Atkison at atkisond@gmail.com to be added to the trip distribution list.  Signing up to be placed on the distribution list does not commit you to taking the trip.
• Beginning in early February, you will receive detailed information from Compassion about the trip and the necessary online information to submit.
• Secure your passport - make sure your current passport is valid at least 6 months before the dates of travel, August 2-14.  No Visa is required for this trip.
• Pick up a Rwanda Travel brochure for the trip - available in early February at the Compassion Corridor at SCC.

A firm commitment to make the trip is required by Compassion on April 15, and a $300 non-refundable deposit is also required by this date to secure your place on the trip.  Some scholarships are available.

 

Over the next few months, a travel timeline will be formed as we work with Compassion.  There will be four mandatory meetings for those making the trip.  Compassion provides guidelines and detailed information to help us prepare our hearts and minds for all that God has planned and prepared in advance for us as we go in Jesus' Name.

2. We bring honor and glory to God in all that we do
3. Every detail be under God's sovereign care and leadership
4. We carry a loving, growing, serving heart to the people of Rwanda
5. We grasp a deeper understanding of poverty, its causes, and solutions
6. The Father will give us His heart of Compassion - send us/use us/change us - for His Kingdom's purposes
