At Southview, our mission is to help all people become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. God has placed us on a pathway of becoming a community of people who are seeking to become more and more like Jesus every day. We believe that there are four steps of maturity that believers go through on this journey: Seeker, Learner, Servant, and Developer.
Seeker – moving from those who’ve not yet established a relationship with Christ to the establishment of that relationship and understanding what He has done for you
Learner – developing strong foundational habits for Christian living and a strong grasp on Biblical truths
Servant – discovering your spiritual gifts, passion, and style and utilizing them in service; continuing to grow in Christ and learning to depend on Him every day for guidance
Developer – influencing and developing others to follow Christ and serve Him; a truly Christ-centered life
Spiritual growth and maturity is a process. While each believer may progress at different speeds, our intent is to offer a clear strategy of development, NeXt steps, for people at every level on the journey. Spiritual transformation is the work of the Holy Spirit. We do not control the Spirit. We can pursue transformation, but we can’t make it happen. John Ortberg writes, “We can open ourselves to transformation through certain practices, but we cannot engineer it. We can take no credit for it.” We can make a decision to pursue transformation – and that’s what the NeXt discipleship classes at Southview are about.
The mission of the NeXt discipleship classes at Southview is to help you become a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ through a comprehensive program of biblically sound instruction, training, and mentoring intended to contribute to your spiritual growth, equipping you to contribute to the spiritual growth of others in the body of Christ.
There are 3 essentials for your journey on the Pathway:
Maturity begins with a decision – DEVOTION
Maturity involves a process – DEVELOPMENT
Maturity has a goal – CHRISTLIKENESS AND DUPLICATION
Our NeXt discipleship classes will typically meet on Sunday nights from 5-6:30 p.m. Childcare is provided for infants through preschool. Elementary children (grades K-6) and youth (grades 7-12) are in small groups and discipleship classes during this time. There are also classes that meet during the week (Precepts and Ladies Bible Study) if that works better for your schedule.
We are committed to helping you grow in your faith journey. This is one way we can assist you in taking that "next" step toward becoming more like Jesus.
