As I write this article, I’m anticipating the fall season. I love the cool breeze, the leaves as they change colors, and the general feeling of anticipation toward the Christmas season. I’m also anticipating what I believe is ahead for us at Southview.
For the last 6 months, the Elders have been praying and seeking the face of God concerning His plan and direction for Southview. We have been intentional about this process, and we feel that we have heard from Him. Mark your calendars for Sunday, November 16 at 6 p.m. This will be the first annual meeting per Southview’s new bylaws, and the Elders will be laying out the plan ahead as we feel God has led us. We’ll be presenting the 2009 ministry budget, with some new ideas and direction for 2009 and beyond, and we want as many members as possible to come and be a part. We will be having a worship service that evening, as our vision for this very important meeting is that it is a part of our worship of Almighty God, so come prepared to worship, to pray, to learn, and to follow God as He leads. We want to please God in every way, every day, and we are excited about what He has laid on our hearts to bring to you as we lead into a new year. Be praying now for us as we finalize the plans for this important service, and be praying that we would all be of one mind and heart as we seek the God who has called us, redeemed us, and commissioned us with the most important mission in history – seeking and saving the lost in Herndon, northern Virginia, and around the world.
New ministry – new direction – for a new year. Like Benaiah in 2 Samuel 23:20-23, let’s chase the lions that God calls us to, never allowing fear to stand in our way, but seeking to follow Him wherever He leads. Let’s overcome adversity, embrace uncertainty, and remember above all that we are called to play offense for our King, not remain behind the gates playing defense. Let’s remember that God is bigger than the odds against us. Let’s remember that God calls us to be faithful, not risk-averse. Let’s chase the lions of 2009 as we seek to hear the words of our Master – “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Serving Him with you, --Pastor William
